I felt trapped, sad, and scared that I had made a mistake quitting my ‘safe’ corporate job and starting my own business.
I was sitting on the couch with my fiancé and I was crying, head in hands, trying to figure out what to do. If I didn’t change something I would never get the business off the ground, I’d probably end up sick, and I felt like I’d probably crack up and lose my mind. He mentioned that his company (a big designer and manufacturer of specialty auto parts) was hiring interns for the summer. I got to thinking about the internship program I had designed for my prior employer, a major Wall Street firm, when I was head of Learning & Development for a 1000+ employee division.
Why couldn’t I have interns in my business? Just because I was a one-woman show, a solo entrepreneur, didn’t mean I couldn’t, right? Well, the truth was I had no idea but, I was going to find out.
